Visit to Ringsted Radio Museum

On August 2, 2013, the Southern Jutland Radio Museum had arranged a trip to Ringsted Radio Museum for its members.

17 people visited Ringsted Radio Museum, where we were welcomed by Bjarne Nielsen, the chairman and the driving force behind this well-stocked and well-decorated Radio Museum.

Bjarne told about the history and creation of the museum, and about the great and tireless efforts that Bjarne himself, but also the now deceased Niels Holm – a long-time teacher at Ringsted Technical School – had made to ensure that the Ringsted Radio Museum can appear as it does today.

The Ringsted Radio Museum has recently had to vacate the premises that have been available for a number of years, and has moved into a former church and chapel. The buildings were transferred to the museum for one krone, but the museum must raise funds for reconstruction, renovation, heating and electricity. As an outsider, one must wonder that Ringsted Municipality does not support Ringsted Radio Museum financially – for example with free heating and electricity – so that this unique Radio Museum can survive.
Fortunately, we had the opportunity to experience the Ringsted Radio Museum and the man behind it – Bjarne Nielsen.

The TV series "Krøniken", which tells the story of the family behind and people associated with the fictional radio factory Bella, has close relations with Ringsted Radio Museum, which not only provided radio and TV sets for the series, but also ensured the correct setup of the assembly lines, which was characteristic of the radio and TV factories of the time.

After the visit to Ringsted Radio Museum, we were invited to dinner at the home of our very active member Alex and his wife Margot. It was a fantastic end to the day, although we did not celebrate with fireworks(1) – Alex and Margot live in Seest near Kolding.

(1) The remark refers to the fireworks accident in Seest on November 3, 2004.
